Steelers vs Jets 2nd quarter summary

Published

on

It feels so good to be watching the black and gold again. Grab a cold one for halftime and here’s your 2nd quarter summary along with my quick and dirty notes

The second quarter was basically the “Breece Hall runs through the Steelers defense like it owes him money” show, with Justin Fields tossing sidearm lasers and making our pass rush look like it was running in quicksand. The Jets strutted to a 19–10 lead, featuring Nick Folk’s geriatric ass “massaging in” another field goal, because apparently this man’s leg is made of whatever powers Tom Brady’s avocado ice cream. Meanwhile, the Steelers offense was flatter than a two-day-old Iron City beer—until Rodgers woke up, uncorking a few vintage cross-body heaters to Calvin Austin, who actually looked like the guy we’ve been hyping since the Carter administration.

Then, in a moment that probably required an ayahuasca microdose, Arthur Smith somehow drew up a psychedelic push-pass TD to Jonnu Smith, trimming the Jets’ lead to 19–17 and reminding us he’s capable of more than run-run-sack-punt. The half closed in peak AFC sludgeball fashion: near-sacks that turned into Fields Houdini acts, Garrett Wilson sideline grabs, and a little shoving match after Ramsey smacked Fields—because God forbid a Steelers game doesn’t involve a fake tough-guy scrum. Both squads jogged to the locker room looking like they needed a cigarette and a shot of Pepto. Jets 19, Steelers 17.

Quick and dirty notes:

  • steelers kick a field goal and take the lead 10 to 9
  • Jess get the ball back and drive with ease against the Steelers defense. I don’t get it, we have all the players, and this Jets offense is not getting stopped in the least bit.
  • Justin Fields does a slide arm sling to haul who then takes it for over 20 yards. Breece Hall is doing work against this defense.
  • Speaking of which, Breece all car in the Steelers defense seems to be the theme of the day. Takes a hand off and gets an easy first down to set up a red zone possession.
  • Jets convert that red zone possession with a short run and take the lead to 16 to 10
  • Steelers get the ball and nothing really notable. We did have a Jaylen Warren appearance though. With that said gainwell seems to be the featured back, including in receiving passes out of the backfield.
  • Jets get the ball back and TJ Watt smashes Justin Fields on a zone read. He did hand the ball off to the running back for a no gain, but it’s always nice to see the quarterback hit.
  • Karma is a bitch. Field shows his mobility and fires a pass into tight coverage that somehow brought in for a first down.
  • Phil chose his mobility again gets around the pressure and gets a 3 yard run all to be followed by another Breece Hall gash for the first down. Breece Hall better be a top five running back otherwise the Steelers are in a lot of trouble this year.
  • The only thing that could stop Justin Fields mobility is the shitty turf in the Jets stadium. Steelers force a fourth down.
  • Nick Folks, the ageless Wonder. Can’t believe this guy is still in the NFL. 18 year career. He lines up and squeaks in, or as Ian Eagle noted – “massages in” a field goal in for another three points for the Jets. Jets 19, Steelers 10
  • Steelers get the ball back. Rogers still has some mobility in the pocket. He avoids a rush and does his patented sling cross body throw to Calvin Austin (good to see him) for a nice 20 something yard gain along the sideline.
  • The Steelers tight end Parade continues. This time, Rogers slings side arm pass to Washington for a first down.
  • Calvin Austin! We’ve been hearing and about this guy skills for years and it’s nice to have a quarterback finally unleash him. Rogers throws a beautiful back shoulder fade along the sideline and Calvin skies to haul it in right on the 3 yard line.
  • Has Arthur Smith been going on a darkness retreat or sipping some ayahuasca? He drew beautiful and creative play for Jonnu Smith on a push pass to take it in. What is going on? Jets 19 Steeler 17.
  • Jets get ball back with less than a minute to go
  • To the Steelers, the Lions credit, they have been getting pressure. They almost sack fields however his agility gets him out of pressure and he throws a sideline pass to Garrett Wilson.
  • Whatever I just said in the last point copy and paste it. We almost have another sack and Fields somehow sneaks out of it to throw the ball on the sideline.
  • But wait! There’s almost a scuffle. Ramsey hits Fields right after he threw it, and their lineman obviously came out to defend him. Lots of pushing and shoving not much more.
  • And a personal foul penalty on the jets. Any chance of having a field goal is now minimal
  • We and a half with a jet run and two of the receivers trying to rough off Ramsey. Ends with a slight scuffle and both teams had to locker room.
  • Jets 19 Steele 17

In the latest NFL news, the league is buzzing with updates, injuries, and a few surprises that could make or break your fantasy team. First up, the New England Patriots are feeling the sting as their running back, Antonio Gibson, has been sidelined for the season due to a torn ACL. This is a tough blow for the Patriots, who were hoping to rely on Gibson’s speed and agility to navigate through the season. Meanwhile, the Detroit Lions are also dealing with their own injury woes, as cornerback Terrion Arnold is expected to be out for an extended period with a shoulder injury. Coach Dan Campbell is keeping his fingers crossed that it won’t be season-ending, but let’s be real, the Lions could use all the help they can get. In other news, the Indianapolis Colts are facing a similar fate as kicker Spencer Shrader will miss the rest of the season after suffering a torn ACL and MCL. It seems like injuries are the real MVPs this season!

As we dive deeper into the injury reports, we can’t help but notice the drama unfolding in the league. The Kansas City Chiefs are holding their breath as wide receiver Xavier Worthy is questionable for their upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. With the Chiefs sitting at a 2-2 record, they need all hands on deck to secure a win. And speaking of wins, the Las Vegas Raiders are also feeling the heat as tight end Brock Bowers is considered week to week with a knee injury. The Raiders are hoping to turn their season around, but with injuries piling up, it’s looking like a tough road ahead.

In the midst of all this chaos, we can’t forget about the other trending stories in the NFL. The Titans have activated RB Tyjae Spears from injured reserve, which could be a game-changer for their offense. And let’s not overlook the Ravens, who are dealing with their own injury concerns as QB Lamar Jackson sits out practice with a hamstring issue. It’s a wild ride in the NFL, and as we gear up for Week 6, one thing is for sure: injuries are the name of the game!

In a plot twist that even the most seasoned college football fans didn’t see coming, the Penn State Nittany Lions have managed to go from a promising No. 2 ranking to a complete disappearance from the AP Top 25. It’s like watching a magician pull a rabbit out of a hat, only to realize the rabbit was actually a very confused cat. After a stunning loss to UCLA, a team that was on the brink of a winless season, Penn State has left fans scratching their heads and wondering if they should start looking for a new head coach. James Franklin, the man at the helm, has been steering this ship for years, but it seems like he’s lost the map somewhere between the Big Ten and the national championship. The Nittany Lions were supposed to be the team to beat, but now they’re just the team to laugh at. With a soft non-conference schedule and a record of 0-2 against Power Four schools, it’s hard to argue that they deserve any votes in the top 25. So, what’s next for Penn State? A win against Northwestern might help, but let’s be real, they need a miracle to get back on track. Buckle up, folks, this season just got a lot more interesting!
