March Tourney: Big Money ($3 Billion!)
An estimated $3.1 billion is expected to be wagered on the NCAA men’s and women’s basketball tournaments, reflecting a 15% increase from last year. Discover the excitement and responsible gaming tips!

March Madness: Betting Bonanza Expected to Top $3 Billion!
As the NCAA basketball tournaments tip off, the betting frenzy is set to reach new heights. An estimated $3.1 billion is expected to be wagered on this year’s men’s and women’s tournaments, marking a nearly 15% increase from last year. To put that in perspective, that’s more than double the amount bet on the Super Bowl!
The American Gaming Association (AGA) crunched the numbers, analyzing monthly revenue reports from state gambling regulators to arrive at this staggering estimate. For context, they projected that $1.4 billion would be bet on the Super Bowl in February. So, if you thought the Super Bowl was the big cheese, think again!
Halvor Egeland, a trading manager for BetMGM, shared his insights, stating, “Super Bowl will certainly bring some bigger individual wagers than the tournament, but there’s no shortage of interest. March Madness is a massive time of year for us.” And who can blame him? The excitement is palpable!
Mark your calendars, folks! The brackets for both the men’s and women’s tournaments will be unveiled this Sunday. Just a heads up, the AGA’s estimate doesn’t even factor in the cash flowing through office bracket pools, which is a whole other ball game.
Joe Maloney, senior vice president of strategic communications for the AGA, chimed in, saying, “March Madness is one of the most exciting times in American sports, with fans fired up for both the men’s and women’s NCAA tournaments. As legal wagering expands across the U.S., more fans than ever have the opportunity to bet legally and responsibly.” Talk about a win-win!
Speaking of wins, the interest in women’s college basketball is on the rise. BetMGM reported a 35% year-over-year increase in the amount wagered on women’s games. Patrick Berbert, who oversees college basketball odds for Caesars Sportsbook, noted that the popularity of the women’s game has surged, especially after former Iowa star Caitlin Clark made her move to the WNBA. “Now, you are seeing the likes of JuJu Watkins for USC and Paige Bueckers of UConn carrying over that popular betting momentum,” he said.
However, it’s not all fun and games. A 2024 study commissioned by the NCAA revealed that gambling-related harassment of athletes peaks during the basketball tournaments, with a staggering 73% of abusive messages referencing betting or match-fixing allegations occurring during March Madness. Women athletes, unfortunately, received about 59% more abusive messages than their male counterparts.
In light of this, the AGA is promoting responsible gaming, encouraging bettors to “Keep your cool” and reminding everyone that the outcome of a bet—win or lose—is “not an invitation to criticize players, coaches, or officials online or in-person.” Wise words indeed!
So, as we gear up for the madness, remember to bet smart and enjoy the thrill of the game!

White out hype video – Penn State vs USC

The Penn State Nittany Lions return to Happy Valley battered and bruised after consecutive defeats, including a brutal 34–13 loss on the shores of Northwestern. Their armor is dented, their banners torn, and their pride wounded. But there is no time to recover. Marching east comes the mighty Trojan army of USC, battle-tested and fresh off a hard-fought victory over Washington. The Trojans smell blood, and a wounded Lion looks like easy prey.
But the Trojans have made one fatal miscalculation: they aren’t just marching into another battlefield. They’re marching into the WHITE OUT. 🏰⚪️ Over 100,000 faithful will transform Beaver Stadium into a sea of white as the entire kingdom rises to defend its Lions. The Trojans have come seeking conquest. The Lions have a kingdom to protect. Saturday night, the gates open. Let the battle begin. ⚔️🔥

Penn State vs. Northwestern hype video

Penn State enters Evanston at 3-1, but the Lions aren’t exactly riding into battle untouched. After opening the season with three straight wins-including a 55-13 win over Buffalo-their first Big Ten test ended in a 24-20 loss to Wisconsin. The defense is still creating havoc, with eight takeaways through four games, but now the Lions leave Happy Valley needing to prove that one defeat didn’t crack the armor.
Waiting on the shores of Lake Michigan is a Northwestern team that has been a lot more dangerous than anyone should assume. The Wildcats opened 2-0, crushed Colorado 41-7, then went into the home of No. 5 Indiana and nearly pulled off the upset before falling 29-23. Now they return home for the first game ever at the new Ryan Field-and they already beat Penn State 22-21 last season. The Wildcats have their castle. The Lions are at the gates.
Friday night, the battle begins.

Steelers somehow lose to a Deshaun Watson-led Browns team
The Browns did the football equivalent of showing up to the AFC North potluck, eating the best dish, and then acting surprised when they’re suddenly in charge of the whole table. Cleveland’s 27-24 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday night pushed the Browns to 3-1, put them alone in first place in the division, and extended Deshaun Watson’s latest hobby: marching the offense downfield like a man who has somewhere much better to be after midnight.
This was Watson’s third straight game-winning drive, which is the sort of stat that starts turning a team’s identity from “interesting early-season story” into “oh no, these guys might actually be real.” The Browns have spent enough years living in the land of should-have-won-and-didn’t that a divisional win like this feels especially loud. Beating the Steelers at home in prime time is never just one victory; it’s a little declaration that the old AFC North script might need a rewrite. Cleveland has momentum, confidence, and first place — three things that are usually hard to find in one Browns-shaped package. The takeaway is simple: if this is the version of Cleveland that shows up in October, the rest of the division is going to need a bigger excuse than “it was on Thursday night.”
