Get your popcorn ready, folks! This Saturday, the No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes are heading to Austin to face off against the No. 4 Texas Longhorns in a game that could very well be the College Football Playoff preview we didn’t know we needed. It’s like a heavyweight boxing match, but with more touchdowns and fewer knockouts (unless you count the Longhorns’ last two encounters with the Buckeyes). The Buckeyes have been on a winning streak against Texas, and let’s just say, the Longhorns are itching for revenge like a cat waiting to pounce on a laser pointer. With both teams boasting quarterbacks who have transformed from mere mortals to gridiron gods, this game promises to be a spectacle. So, cancel your plans, grab your favorite snacks, and prepare for a night of football that might just redefine your weekend!

Texas’ Quarterback ‘Competition’ Is Officially In The Stage Where Everyone Pretends Not To Notice The Competition

Texas has reached the part of the season every anxious football program eventually discovers: the coach insists nothing is changing, the reporters say something is changing, and the quarterback room now feels like a high-stakes poker table where nobody’s allowed to say “all in.” Steve Sarkisian said Arch Manning remains the starter and swatted away the idea that KJ Lacey’s first-team reps mean the Longhorns are suddenly staging a royal succession in Austin. On paper, that’s a calm, routine Tuesday. In college football, it’s usually the opening scene of a very loud week.

Sarkisian’s message was basically: relax, the backup gets first-team work every week, and this is not a cinematic quarterback overthrow. That may be true, but Texas doesn’t get to enjoy the luxury of sounding normal right now. The Longhorns have dropped two straight, the offense has sputtered, and every practice rep is being studied like it’s a leaked classified document from the SEC’s Department of Anxiety. Manning is still QB1, but the real story is that Texas is now at the point where even a tiny hint of movement behind him feels like a depth-chart earthquake. That’s what happens when you start a season as a title favorite and end up explaining first-team reps like you’re on trial for math.

The upcoming Ole Miss game will tell us plenty, because in college football, “he’s our starter” and “we’ll find out as the week goes” are two sentences that can live in the same building only if the floor is already shaking.

Arch Manning’s Rough Afternoon Powers Florida’s Most Unwelcome Texas Office Visit Yet

Arch Manning struggles and Colin Simmons is carted as Texas loses to Florida

Florida arrived in Austin looking like a team in need of a life raft and left with Texas’ lunch money, the stadium keys, and a fresh reminder that college football still enjoys a good plot twist. The Gators spotted No. 7 Texas a lead, then calmly ripped off 24 straight points and walked out of Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium with a 27-24 upset that felt less like a football game and more like a supervised demolition project with a marching band.

The strangest part is that Texas had all the ingredients of a textbook “home favorite survives and everybody goes back to ranking things in peace” afternoon. Instead, Arch Manning spent much of the day fighting the sort of game that makes quarterbacks consider a new hobby, and the Longhorns coughed up a lead big enough to make defensive coordinators across the country start sharpening pencils. Manning did uncork one impressive strike while escaping pressure, but the bigger story was the wobble: Texas needed a clean finish and got a fourth quarter that looked like it had been assembled by committee. Worse for the Longhorns, edge star Colin Simmons left with a lower-leg injury after entering the day as one of the nation’s most disruptive pass rushers. Florida, meanwhile, kept hammering away until the upset was official, proving that even in the age of playoff expectations, the simplest formula still works: stay alive long enough, and the ranked team may eventually hand you the game on a silver platter.

Oregon’s Quarterback Carousel Spins Again, and Nebraska Gets the Front-Row Seat

Oregon Ducks quarterback situation ahead of Nebraska game

Oregon has apparently reached the point where its quarterback depth chart needs its own traffic cop. With Dante Moore still working his way back from a concussion and Dylan Raiola coming off a brutal outing against UCLA, the Ducks are reportedly handing the keys to Brock Thomas for Saturday night’s matchup with Nebraska. That means Oregon is heading into one of its biggest games of the month with a third quarterback plan, which is usually the sort of thing you see when a team is trying to survive a tornado, not a Big Ten showdown.

The switch is easy to understand if you watched last week’s disaster movie in Eugene. Raiola struggled through a 17-15 loss, Thomas provided a spark off the bench, and Oregon’s offense suddenly looked like it had remembered where the playbook was kept. Now the Ducks get Nebraska, which adds a delicious extra layer of chaos because Raiola spent two seasons with the Cornhuskers before transferring. Nothing says “college football in 2026” quite like a team benching its former Nebraska quarterback to play another quarterback in a game against Nebraska, as if the sport itself has started writing sitcom plots. Oregon may still have talent, but right now the Ducks are basically asking whether the quarterback room can stop auditioning and just pick a lead actor.
