Steelers versus Seahawks second quarter recap

Published

on

The second quarter opened with the Seahawks trying to flex on fourth down, sneaking out a conversion before sputtering into a field goal try. Their kicker promptly smacked it off the upright, the crowd lost its damn mind, and momentum started to swing. Rodgers and the offense, though, couldn’t capitalize—he got swallowed in a coverage sack when nobody shook free. At that point it looked like we were in for another grind-it-out, field-position snoozer.

Then the Steelers’ pass rush finally remembered they get paid to ruin quarterbacks. Nick Herbig came flying off the edge like he was launched from a trebuchet, forcing Darnold to step up—right into Peyton Wilson, who flattened him like a bull at Pamplona. The defense was suddenly awake, even if the kickoff coverage unit still looked like hot garbage, giving Seattle return yardage that would make a special teams coach chain-smoke on the sideline.

The big turning point came courtesy of Cam Heyward, who bulldozed through the line, batted a pass into the air, and handed Nick Herbig the easiest scoop-and-run of his life. Forty yards later the rookie looked like a damn folk hero, setting up Rodgers at the Seahawks’ 20. This time the offense delivered. Rodgers tossed a jump ball to DK Metcalf, who climbed the ladder and absolutely Moss’d his old teammates for six, giving Steelers fans a collective football boner.

And just when the stadium was still buzzing, Rodgers doubled down on the jump-ball fun. On the two-point try, he lofted one to 6’7” Darnell Washington, who made it look unfairly easy. Suddenly Pittsburgh was rolling, flipping the game on its head with one defensive spark and Rodgers spreading the wealth to his skyscraper-sized toys. Halftime: Steelers 14, Seahawks 7. For all the early miscues, the Steelers left the field looking like the tougher team—and Rodgers was grinning like a man who finally has some real weapons.

below are the quick and dirty notes:

  • The Seahawks start the second quarter with the fourth down attempt that they convert. Couple plays later move the ball up just a bit for a 36 yard field goal attempt making the score Seahawks 10 Steelers six. Just kidding! The Seahawks kicker doing it off the left crossbar and the crowd goes wild.
  • Rogers dropped back on third down. Can’t find anyone open and the pocket collapses as the Seahawks get a sack. Coverage sack 100%.
  • Steelers pass rush, has come to play! Nick Herbig blast off the right side like he was shot out of a canon with the tight end, whipping on him and forcing Donald to slide up in the pocket. Unfortunately, for him, Peyton Wilson was also running like a bowl in Pamplona and gets his first massive sack.
  • The Steelers kickoff coverage needs work. After a boomer 59 yard punt, Tour Horton of the Seahawks returns it for 21 yards and sets up the Seahawks offense at midfield. Counting the 230 yard kickoff returns, the coverage and coach Danny Smith needs to go to work hard next week.
  • The Seahawks move the ball up to the 33 yard line and finally the run defense wakes up, with three defense alignment, waiting on the Seahawks running back and Jalen Ramsey coming in for a attack her loss.
  • And just when I was calling the defense out, they make a huge play! Cam Hayward bust through the line and bats a ball, trying to show the GM that he was worth the extra money. Nick Herbig scoops the ball out of the air and takes it for another 40 or so yards down to the Seahawks 20. How big is the front runner for defensive mvp today
  • The Steelers move the ball to the Seahawks three and that’s when Rogers decides to break out the highlight real play. He throws a jump ball for DK who proceeds to Moss the poor Seahawks defender for the Steelers first touchdown of the day. Also, some revenge for DK against  his former team.
  • With the score 12 seven, the Steelers decide to go for two and Rogers had so much fun throwing a jump ball that he throws one to the left side and his 6 foot seven Titan, Darnell, Washington to easily come down with a jump ball. Rogers has to be so happy with all these weapons that he has. Steelers 14Seahawks seven.
  • Steelers give the ball back however, get sacked and the quarter and a half. Halftime score Steelers 14 Seahawks seven.

Penn State vs. Northwestern hype video

Penn State enters Evanston at 3-1, but the Lions aren’t exactly riding into battle untouched. After opening the season with three straight wins-including a 55-13 win over Buffalo-their first Big Ten test ended in a 24-20 loss to Wisconsin. The defense is still creating havoc, with eight takeaways through four games, but now the Lions leave Happy Valley needing to prove that one defeat didn’t crack the armor.

Waiting on the shores of Lake Michigan is a Northwestern team that has been a lot more dangerous than anyone should assume. The Wildcats opened 2-0, crushed Colorado 41-7, then went into the home of No. 5 Indiana and nearly pulled off the upset before falling 29-23. Now they return home for the first game ever at the new Ryan Field-and they already beat Penn State 22-21 last season. The Wildcats have their castle. The Lions are at the gates.

Friday night, the battle begins.

Steelers somehow lose to a Deshaun Watson-led Browns team

Published

on

The Browns did the football equivalent of showing up to the AFC North potluck, eating the best dish, and then acting surprised when they’re suddenly in charge of the whole table. Cleveland’s 27-24 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday night pushed the Browns to 3-1, put them alone in first place in the division, and extended Deshaun Watson’s latest hobby: marching the offense downfield like a man who has somewhere much better to be after midnight.

This was Watson’s third straight game-winning drive, which is the sort of stat that starts turning a team’s identity from “interesting early-season story” into “oh no, these guys might actually be real.” The Browns have spent enough years living in the land of should-have-won-and-didn’t that a divisional win like this feels especially loud. Beating the Steelers at home in prime time is never just one victory; it’s a little declaration that the old AFC North script might need a rewrite. Cleveland has momentum, confidence, and first place — three things that are usually hard to find in one Browns-shaped package. The takeaway is simple: if this is the version of Cleveland that shows up in October, the rest of the division is going to need a bigger excuse than “it was on Thursday night.”
