Recap of Steelers game 1 victory against the Jets

Published

on

Steelers–Jets was supposed to be a grind-it-out Week 1 matchup, but instead we got a damn track meet. By halftime, almost every drive ended in points, and the Jets looked like the better team on paper. Justin Fields torched the Steelers for 218 passing yards and three total touchdowns, while Breece Hall bullied his way to 126 yards on the ground. The Jets outgained Pittsburgh 394 to 271 and racked up 183 rushing yards compared to the Steelers’ pitiful 52. And yet… this thing was still hanging by a thread.

Aaron Rodgers, in his Pittsburgh debut, reminded everyone what it looks like to have an actual quarterback with command. He went 22-of-30 for 244 yards and four touchdowns, including zips to Freiermuth, Jonnu Smith, and Calvin Austin. It wasn’t just the stat line though—it was Rodgers audibling, moving guys around, and slinging vintage cross-body throws that the Steelers have been missing for years. Early on he found Metcalf for chunk gains, dropped a back-shoulder beauty to Austin, and threaded a needle to Washington as part of the “tight end parade.” Then came the haymakers: Kenneth Gainwell forces a fumble on a kickoff, and two plays later Rodgers hits Austin for six. In less than a minute the Steelers went from down 26–24 to up 31–26, flipping the whole vibe of the game. It was messy, it was wild, but it was Rodgers in full command.

The Jets weren’t rolling over. Fields dinked and dunked his way downfield before sneaking in a 1-yard score to take a 32–31 lead in the fourth. But Rodgers wasn’t done being an evil wizard. He found DK Metcalf on a tipped circus catch that somehow stayed alive, then benefited from a Calvin Austin PI call to get Chris Boswell into range. Range being 60 freakin’ yards. Boswell lined it up, swung his leg, and drilled a career-longer that looked like it would’ve been good from midfield. Steelers back on top, 34–32. Watch Boswell’s bomb here.

With 45 seconds left, the Jets had a shot, but the Steelers defense—MIA all day—finally clocked in. Fields threw three straight incompletions, Ramsey broke up the last gasp to Garrett Wilson, and that was all she wrote. Steelers 34, Jets 32. Rodgers proved he’s still got MVP juice, DK and Austin showed why they’re dangerous, and Boswell reminded everyone his leg isn’t dead yet. For the Jets, the offense looked scary as hell, but special teams gaffes and defensive lapses cost them the opener. Here’s the full game highlights.

Penn State vs. Northwestern hype video

Published

on

Penn State enters Evanston at 3-1, but the Lions aren’t exactly riding into battle untouched. After opening the season with three straight wins-including a 55-13 win over Buffalo-their first Big Ten test ended in a 24-20 loss to Wisconsin. The defense is still creating havoc, with eight takeaways through four games, but now the Lions leave Happy Valley needing to prove that one defeat didn’t crack the armor.

Waiting on the shores of Lake Michigan is a Northwestern team that has been a lot more dangerous than anyone should assume. The Wildcats opened 2-0, crushed Colorado 41-7, then went into the home of No. 5 Indiana and nearly pulled off the upset before falling 29-23. Now they return home for the first game ever at the new Ryan Field-and they already beat Penn State 22-21 last season. The Wildcats have their castle. The Lions are at the gates.

Friday night, the battle begins.

Steelers somehow lose to a Deshaun Watson-led Browns team

Published

on

The Browns did the football equivalent of showing up to the AFC North potluck, eating the best dish, and then acting surprised when they’re suddenly in charge of the whole table. Cleveland’s 27-24 win over Pittsburgh on Thursday night pushed the Browns to 3-1, put them alone in first place in the division, and extended Deshaun Watson’s latest hobby: marching the offense downfield like a man who has somewhere much better to be after midnight.

This was Watson’s third straight game-winning drive, which is the sort of stat that starts turning a team’s identity from “interesting early-season story” into “oh no, these guys might actually be real.” The Browns have spent enough years living in the land of should-have-won-and-didn’t that a divisional win like this feels especially loud. Beating the Steelers at home in prime time is never just one victory; it’s a little declaration that the old AFC North script might need a rewrite. Cleveland has momentum, confidence, and first place — three things that are usually hard to find in one Browns-shaped package. The takeaway is simple: if this is the version of Cleveland that shows up in October, the rest of the division is going to need a bigger excuse than “it was on Thursday night.”
